You should not be watching the latest movie about The Life Of Henry Ford. And if you have already, stop it now. If you are still in the theater, grab a snack, and get ready to be disappointed.
You must see this movie because it is part of a series based on the book by Walter Isaacson. I don’t know how he managed to make up a story that was all over the place. That is not my complaint, as I do like the idea of Henry Ford as a character. But the plot goes from one end of the country to the other without showing any connection between any of the characters.
Now, I am sure there is some connection to his life, but the movie keeps missing it. In the book, “The Man Who Would Be King” by Mark Antony, there is a connection between Ford and others that were in the same industrial revolution era. Why? Why is there no connection in the movie?
Life Of Henry Ford
I believe it is because of the movie’s studio. When a story like this makes it to the screen, the studio will take advantage of it. I guess they are still producing movies based on the life of Henry Ford. I hope it does not cost me much in the end.
The script is full of inconsistencies. You start by hearing about his life and then jump forward so many years. You would think he had died or moved on, but he didn’t. There are incidents about his family that have been cut from the movie because it did not fit the story line. Then there is a character that is going to be part of the story that does not appear in the movie.
One scene shows him at his desk thinking about text messages from a girl. He gets up and walks out into the hall to go into the bathroom. He comes back and sees that the set has been changed. And he says he needs to go. He doesn’t.
The editor suggested cutting a scene of him walking to the washroom in order to keep the storyline, and he was concerned about any cuts that might be made. It made me laugh. I have heard other movies where the editor needs to get rid of something.
This scene was actually cut from the movie because it was not necessary. It would have slowed down the film enough to make the storyline go from the first person to the third person. But, he had to go to the bathroom anyway. So what happens?
He goes to the washroom and just about runs into an old friend, who is also in the bathroom with a bathrobe on and he gets startled and he runs out of the bathroom. There is no reason for the characters to run from the bathroom, yet he just did. They can just enter the bathroom and that is that. It is not the storyline, so there was no reason to add that scene.
There was a scene where he enters the toilet and the other characters go in to sit down. But then he comes back in and puts his foot on the toilet seat, so he has to step out and then they go back in again. In fact, they are laughing at his foot, so it does not seem like he was actually using the toilet.
Another scene would have shown him trying to convince a friend to sign a contract to make cars. He goes to their house and when he arrives, he finds they have been moved. Then, he finds they don’t have a furnace. So, he tells them he will bring a furnace to their house.
You see, the director needed to fill in the storyline. The people who did not appear in the movie could have shown in the movie that Henry Ford had tried to sell a new furnace to the friend, but was turned down. So, we got a much better idea of how that was possible, yet the other people in the movie are missing.
